Q: Where do I find the pricing?
A: Please contact our Coordinator for the actual pricing - see 'Contact Us'.
Q: What do the dinners consist of?
A: They consist of 3-4 courses: Soup, salad, main course, dessert. For drinking, the choice of water and soft drinks / juice may be available. The B&B’s will communicate with each other in time to coordinate the meals so that the guests are not served f.e. the same main dishes on three days. In our experience, each B&B has is signature dish.
Q: Are the dietary wishes of the guests respected and documented?
A: Yes. At the time of booking, the guests are asked to advise if there are any dietary issues - allergies, sensitivities, etc. This will be documented and passed along to the individual B&B's when the reservation is confirmed.
Q: Are pets allowed at Home-to-Home B&B's?
A: Pets are not accepted by most B&B's. Please consider as well that not only do most B&B’s not allow pets for various reasons such as allergies, but there is also the possibility of transferring bacterial infections from farm to farm when you hike the Bruce Trail. Some farmers will not even allow pets on a leash to cross their property along the Bruce Trail for that reason.
Q: How far is it to walk between the B&B’s?
A: The whole of the Bruce Trail on the Bruce Peninsula is approximately 185 km long. The distance per day is between 12 and 25 km. The normal day hikes would be Wiarton - Purple Valley - Hope Bay - Barrow Bay - Lion's Head - Cape Chin - Dyer's Bay – Bruce Peninsula National Park - Tobermory. In order to complete the entire distance, you normally need 8-9 days.
Q: Does it matter if we hike from South to North or vice versa?
A: The difficulty on the trail varies. It is less strenuous to begin from the south. It is entirely up to the individuals concerned.
Q: Do you have more detailed information on the Bruce Trail?
A: Yes, there is a link to it from the map and on 'Find us'.
Q: How many km are there for dropping off the luggage and/or drop-off/pick-up of hikers?
A: That varies from 0 to approx. 120 Km per B&B and depends entirely on which routes the hikers wish to take. The average cost is approx. $20 per B&B.
Q: How do people get back to Owen Sound from Tobermory if they do not have their own means of transportation?
A: The B&B owners in and around Tobermory will provide transportation; you have to inform our Coordinator about your means of transport. The distance from Tobermory is approx. 110 km one way, the cost is calculated per km driven for the host (both ways), as for all transportation of you or/and your luggage. Please contact the Coordinator for pricing.
Q: Does every B&B provide rooms with private bathrooms?
A: No. But every participating B&B always tries to provide the best room available on the requested date.
Q: Do all B&B’s have queen size/king size beds available?
A: Queen yes / King no.
Q: Do all B&B’s take credit cards?
A: No. Cash and cheques are accepted at all places , some accept credit cards. You will be informed about the methods of payment at your time of booking.
Q: Can all B&B’s accommodate 3 persons in one room?
A: All but one!
Q: Does Home-To-Home demand a deposit or cancellation fee?
A: A credit card number is required when making a booking. For cancellations less than 72 hours before arrival one daily rate according to your booking will be charged on the credit card. If the holiday is shortened or cancelled during your stay for a night less then 48 hours in advance the cost for the night is charged to the card as well since the B&B involved in the cancellation has reserved their space for you.
Q: How long does it normally take for the Coordinator to organize the booking?
A: That depends on the availability of the B&B owners. This can vary from a couple of hours in summertime to a couple of weeks in the off-season when some owners are away from home.
Q: How do I get a map for the Bruce Trail?
A: If you need a hiking map for the Bruce Peninsula section of the Bruce Trail please visit the website of the Peninsula Club of the Bruce Trail Conservancy http://www.pbtc.ca/hikes_sample.html to purchase your set of Day Hike maps or individual copies as well. Or you can purchase a set of Day Hike maps at your first B&B. The map is a fundraiser for the voluntary work of this association.
